President Tinubu has approved the appointment of the Governing Council and principal officers for the newly established Federal University of Environment and Technology, located in Koroma/Saakpenwa, Ogoni, Rivers State.
The announcement was made on Wednesday in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Leading the Governing Council is Prof. Don Mon Baridam, a seasoned management expert and former lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt, who will serve as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council.
Also from the University of Port Harcourt, Prof. Chinedu Mmom, a Professor of Geography and former Rivers State Commissioner for Education, has been appointed the Vice-Chancellor of the new university.
Both Baridam and Mmom hail from the South-South region of Nigeria.
According to the statement, President Tinubu has appointed other key officers as follows:
- Dr. Mpigi Monday Douglas (South-South) – Registrar
- Zoryii Josco Nwaimanie (North-Central) – Bursar
- Dr. Saghanen Ntogo G. B. (South-South) – University Librarian
The Federal University of Environment and Technology is scheduled to admit its first batch of students in September 2025.
It will be recalled that President Tinubu signed the bill establishing the university into law on 3rd February 2025.
