President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has renamed University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) in Borno State to Muhammadu Buhari University, Maiduguri, in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The announcement was made on Thursday, 17 July 2025, during an expanded Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The special session was convened to celebrate and recognise the contributions of the former Nigerian leader.
While addressing members of the cabinet and guests at the event, President Tinubu made the announcement.
His statement was followed by applause from attendees, including ministers who served under Buhari and his son, Yusuf Buhari.
