COEASU Faults FG UTME Waiver for NCE Candidates

The Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) has criticised the Federal Government’s decision to grant admission exemptions to NCE candidates.

The union said it was not consulted before the policy was introduced.

COEASU President, Lawal Bazza, warned that major reforms affecting teacher education should involve critical stakeholders.

According to him, policies aimed at increasing admission into colleges of education must not weaken the quality of teacher training in Nigeria.

The union also expressed concerns that lowering admission standards could negatively affect the future of the country’s education system.

COEASU disclosed that it would hold an emergency meeting to decide its official position on the matter.

The union further called on the Federal Government to engage education stakeholders before implementing major policy changes.
