Prof. Offiong Efanga Offiong has been elected as the 12th substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar (UNICAL).
The University’s Governing Council announced a rigorous screening process that lasted from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., during which a total of ten (10) aspirants were interviewed.
As part of the transition process, the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Florence Banku Obi, who has been in office since November 2020, will officially hand over the leadership of the institution to Prof. Offiong Efanga Offiong later in November 2025.
Professor Offiong is a seasoned academic, distinguished researcher, and former Commissioner for Education.
He brings to the office over 30 years of excellence in teaching, mentorship, and leadership.
He holds both a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Chemistry from the University of Calabar.
